Prof. Dr. Augustin Betz is the founder and head surgeon of the Betz institute and is considered to be one of the top surgeons in his field. Prof. Dr. Betz is internationally known for his approach to complicated orthopedic procedures in which he has pioneered minimally invasive techniques for over 20 years making him one of the most experienced limb lengthening and reconstructive orthopedic surgeons in the world.

Born in Saarlouis in 1950, he studied medicine in Homburg/Saar and Freiburg from 1969-1975, doctorate 1982, habilitation in 1992, appointed to University Professor (C3) by the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich in 1993, previous experience as a physician in the following clinics: Buhl/Baden, Blieskastel Clinic/Saar, University Hospital, Surgery department in Homburg/Saar and Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich Surgical Clinic. Prof. Dr. Betz was employed as Senior Physician and Deputy Director here. Prof. Dr. Betz was Senior Consultant in charge of Accident Surgery, Hand Surgery, Plastic and Restoration Surgery at the Clinic in Constance until 2001. He then followed international contracts in Europe and Asia. 

Prof. Dr. Betz has numerous patents in the field of innovative specific implants; various contracts abroad; mainly in America, Russia and Asia; assistant lecturer at several academies and schools e.g. the Academy for Surgical Further Education of the professional organization of German Surgeons e.V.; former member of the Advisory Council for the Specialist for trauma Injuries Journal; member of the Advisory Council of the "Medical Training" Magazine; member of the German Society of Surgery, the German Society of trauma surgery, not to mention various other societies;

Numerous publications in the national and international trade press.

Prof. Dr. Betz specializes in the following:
