Albizzia
The Albizzia is an
internal telescopic nail consisting of a lengthening mechanism
activated by a rotation. Lengthening occurs with alternate rotations
of the desired bone segment. The rotation of the bone segment makes
a “click” noise so that the patient knows exactly how much he or she
has lengthened. The clicking principle of distraction with the
Albizzia makes it the most accurate way to measure the rate of
distraction.
The Albizzia has many advantages; Fully implantable internal nail, allows immediate full weight bearing (patients can use crutches the first day after the operation), allows up to 10 cm. (4 inch) gain in one bone segment, minimally invasive surgery, accurate distraction monitored by clicking, patients have complete control of the rate of distraction, very small scar formation and simplistically engineered to eliminate mechanical failures seen in other internal devices.
